Intramurals Summer Open Classic Basketball

Summer Open Basketball (Classic)

Key Dates:
Registration Opens: April 1
Registration & Playing Request Deadline: June 23, 4:00 PM
League Play Begins: June 29

League Schedule:
Monday League: Max 12 teams, 8 games scheduled (including 1 PO)
Wednesday League: Max 12 teams, 8 games scheduled (including 1 PO)
Time: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Location: UCalgary Jack Simpson Gym

League Format & Rules:
Open Summer Basketball  is designed for new to advanced players.
Emphasis is on fun and sportsmanship.
Some players may still be learning the rules, so the flow of play may not be natural.

Team Requirements:
Open teams have no gender requirements.

Other Notes:
Standings, officials, & playoffs.
Participants must be 18+ or current UCalgary students enrolled in spring/summer courses.

Intramurals & the Olympics newest sport. 3v3 basketball.
3x3 basketball is an exciting, urban and innovative variation of basketball played with three players on each team on a half-court setup with one hoop and backboard. It is widely held to be the world’s number one urban team sport.
Teams will be allowed to dress 6 players on the game sheets and have unlimited players on roster with completed waiver. 

All Classic leagues have officials, standings & playoffs.

All division descriptions are a base guideline.
A Division – Players would have intermediate to advanced skills and a firm knowledge of the rules. They would have played competitively in high school, club level or with city leagues.

B Division – Players would have intermediate skills and knowledge of the rules. They would have played in Jr. or Sr. high school or with city leagues.

C Division - Players would have basic skills and knowledge of the rules.  They would have played in Jr. high school or Sr. High.

D Division - Players are relatively new to the sport and have basic skills and knowledge of the rules. Emphasis is on fun over competition.

Open Division - No gender requirements. 

3v3 basketball may have a  seeding round depending on the amount of registered teams. This would include 3 seeding round games and 5 regular season games.  If leagues do not have enough registered teams, then divisions will be combined, with a straight 8 game schedule. 

All teams are required to provide their own set of jerseys, light & dark. (Competitive Leagues) preferred with numbers, this can be a set of pinnies, set of same colour shirts, or jerseys.  

*All participants must 18 years of age or a UCalgary student.

Intramural basketball offers competitive leagues in both mixed, men's to allow you to select the type of competition you want. Teams will be scheduled for 8 games. Mixed league are required to have a minimum of 2 players of the opposite gender on the playing surface at all times. Traditionally a 3/2 format. Teams will be allowed to dress 10 players on the game sheets and have unlimited players on roster with completed waiver.
