Intramurals Spring/Summer Mixed Competitive Volleyball

Spring/Summer Registration Opens April 1
Registration & Playing Request Deadline June 2, 4:00pm
League Play Commences June 10.
Max. 8 Teams. (10 games scheduled)

Intramural Sports offers volleyball players a wide selection of volleyball leagues tiered to allow you to select the type of competition you want.  The spring/summer league is competitive, standings, playoffs, supervisor will be provided, League is self officiated. Mixed Teams are required to always have at least 2 players of the opposite gender on the court. Teams can only dress 10 players on game sheets.

Spring/Summer league incorporates all skill levels.  Teams will be scheduled for 10 games including playoffs. Games are a best of 5 format in 1.5hr time slots.  6:30 & 8:00pm start times.  

All division descriptions are a base guideline.
A Division – Players would have intermediate to advanced skills and a firm knowledge of the rules. They would have played competitively in high school, club level or with city leagues.
B Division – Players would have intermediate skills and knowledge of the rules. They would have played in Jr. or Sr. high school or with city leagues.
C Division - Players would have basic skills and knowledge of the rules.  They would have played in Jr. high school or Sr. High.
D Division - Players are relatively new to the sport and have basic skills and knowledge of the rules. Emphasis is on fun over competition.
Open Division - All skill levels, no gender requirements. 

*Must be 18 years of age or older and/or a current UCalgary student enrolled in spring/summer courses.*

Mixed Teams are required to always have at least 2 players of the opposite gender on the court.  Teams will be allowed to dress 12 players on the game sheets. 

All competitive leagues have officials, standings & playoffs.
Men's League plays a best of 5 in 2hr slots 8 games
Women's League plays a best of 3 in 1hr slots 8 games
Tuesday League plays a best of 3 in 45min slots, 8 double headers 6 seeding round & 10 regular season games.
Thursday League plays a bet of 3 in 45 min slots, 7 double headers, 4 seeding round and 10 regular season games.

Intramurals Fall/Winter Mixed Recreational Volleyball

The Recreational division is for teams who are newer to the sport, or teams that consist of a mix of semi-experienced and inexperienced players. Some players may still be learning the rules of Volleyball, meaning the flow of the game will not always be natural. An average game will feature some bumping, passing and hitting, but the focus is often on just getting the ball over the net, and underhand serves are more common than overhand. If the majority of players are experienced, and wish to hard-hit, then the team should move up to a higher levels, Tuesday or Thursday leagues.
In this division, you cannot:
* hard hit
* jump serve
* back row attack

The Sunday league is fun over competition. Mixed Teams are required to always have at least 2 players of the opposite gender on the court. Teams can only dress 10 players on game sheets. Teams will be scheduled for 8 games.
