Youth Field Hockey

Field Hockey FUTURES (ages 14-18)

Session starts in Fall 2024 Program starts September 26, 2024 16 spots - program runs Thursdays and Fridays (Twice weekly program; classroom/lab Thursdays & gym time Fridays)

The University of Calgary Field Hockey FUTURES program offers an opportunity for those with 2+ years of club experience, and a high proficiency of skills ranking in the Field Hockey Canada skills matrix, to enhance their field hockey credentials and knowledge of the game. Please note: there is a skill level requirement for this program. Players who are new to the sport should register for Field Hockey, Thursday only program in the Gold gym. Players who register and do not meet the skill level requirement will be transferred to the Thursday only program. Attendance is strongly encouraged for all sessions. If a player falls behind and/or misses too many sessions, they will be moved to the Thursday only program.

The program includes two nights a week training with the aim of attending 1 - 2 tournaments in 2025 plus entering a team into the indoor winter field hockey league. Each session will be conducted by qualified coaches that have university and provincial level play experience. Each week consists of on-field training and another night of combined fitness, conditioning and strategic talks. Program includes field hockey skills and tactics, game strategy, as well as leadership, group dynamics, athletic preparedness, and confidence. There will be motivational guest presentations and surprises throughout the sessions.

Program includes both the indoor and outdoor field hockey games.

This program is not for athletes registered in Legacy Academy, Next Gen Program or the Dinos Field Hockey Camps. 

 

Women's Field Hockey

The University of Calgary Women's Field Hockey Club offers an opportunity for those who want to enhance their field hockey skills. Players who are new to the sport are also welcome. The game is fast-paced and exciting when played indoors. Participants will get an opportunity to train and develop their indoor skills. There will also be some opportunities for some tactical and game play/scrimmages. Mouth guards and shin guards are mandatory. All participants are required to provide their own indoor field hockey stick, mouth guard, shin guards, and gloves.

The program at the University is partnered with the Astros Field Hockey Club, who provide the coaching and equipment. University students who are members of other local clubs are able to join the University program and train, but should let their current club know. There may be an additional fee to cover the cost of supplies purchased by the Astros Club to run the program (examples of these costs include:  balls, pylons, pinnies, tape, etc.).
