League Format & Rules:
Recreational soccer is designed for new to experience players.
Emphasis is on fun and sportsmanship, not competition.
Some players may still be learning the rules, so the flow of play may not be natural.
If a team has mostly experienced players, they should consider a higher-level league.
Team Requirements:
Mixed teams must have at least 2 players of the opposite gender on the field at all times.
Outdoor format is typically 9 vs 2, but variations are allowed.
Other Notes:
No standings, officials, or playoffs.
Participants must be 18+ or current UCalgary students enrolled in spring/summer courses.

Recreational soccer will feature teams is for teams who are newer to the sport, or teams that consist of a mix of experienced and inexperienced players. Teams in these divisions must have a “fun first” approach to every game as emphasis is on fun and sportsmanship. Some players may still be learning the rules of Soccer, meaning the flow of the game will not always be natural. If the majority of players are experienced and skilled, then the team should move up to a higher level if available.
Mixed teams are required to have a minimum of 2 players of the opposite gender on the field at all times. For outdoor soccer the format is traditionally a 9/2 format, but can be of any variation.
Recreational leagues do not have standings, officials, or playoffs.
Must be over the age of 18 years or a UCalgary Student.

Teams will be scheduled for 6-8 games. All leagues have standings, officials and playoffs. Divisions may have a seeding round depending on the amount of registered teams. League may include a seeding round games to determine divisions for regular season games. Mixed league are required to have a minimum of 2 players of the opposite gender on the playing surface at all times. Traditionally a 4/2 format. Teams can only dress 10 players on the game sheets. This is follow the number of players that are on the individuals teams, formed by Intramural league coordinators.
All Classic leagues have officials, standings & playoffs.
All teams are required to provide their own set of jerseys, light & dark. (Competitive Leagues) preferred with numbers, this can be a set of pinnies, set of same colour shirts, or jerseys.
Must be over the age of 18 years or a UCalgary Student.

Intramural Sports provides different options for soccer: a competitive league, for those players looking for a more challenging game, and a recreational league, for those that want fun over competition. Mixed Teams are required to have at least 2 players of the opposite gender on the field at all times. Competitive Leagues include Team Standings & Playoffs.
All teams are required to provide their own uniform as Intramurals is trying minimize contact points between participants and staff. Your uniform can be a set of pinnies, shirts, or jerseys of the same colour.
All Classic leagues have officials, standings & playoffs.
All division descriptions are a base guideline.
A Division – Players would have intermediate to advanced skills and a firm knowledge of the rules. They would have played competitively in high school, club level or with city leagues.
B Division – Players would have intermediate skills and knowledge of the rules. They would have played in Jr. or Sr. high school or with city leagues.
C Division - Players would have basic skills and knowledge of the rules. They would have played in Jr. high school or Sr. High.
D Division - Players are relatively new to the sport and have basic skills and knowledge of the rules. Emphasis is on fun over competition.
