Active Living Day was introduced to allow students to try new sports and activities for free. Every Fall and Winter semester we will offer a variety of activities, from yoga classes to rock climbing; there is something for everyone.
Adult Power Skating & Hockey Skills
From beginner to advanced, we have a variety of co-ed power skating and hockey skills classes to choose from. Our physical literacy approach will increase your confidence on the ice, and you will learn or improve all the basic skills to fully enjoy the game of hockey.
In these power skating and hockey skills classes we will focus on fundamental skating skills, from stopping to crossovers, and help you develop good habits to help you improve your hockey game. The higher levels will include strength, conditioning and stamina components, as well as more advanced skating skills. The hockey skills will teach individual and team puck skills, full ice drills, and fun, non-contact scrimmages.

Figure Skating Camp
Calling all ice stars! Join us this summer to fuel your passion for skating.
For kids who've passed at least level 5 in ANY learn to skate program up to and including competitive figure skaters. Grouped according to ability, athletes will learn and build upon all fundamental figure skating skills. On-ice sessions will focus on stroking, free skate, and ice dance in the Olympic Oval training centre, while off-ice sessions like yoga, dance, functional conditioning and sport psychology will enhance their on-ice experience. Spin, spiral and jump your way to success!
NEW: We are pleased to offer TWO weeks of Figure Skating Camp this summer. Join us for 1, or 2 weeks!

Intramural Sports offers ice hockey players a wide selection of leagues to choose from. All leagues are tiered to allow you to select the type of competition that suits you.
Teams are required to have their own set of jersey, WITH #'S ON THEM.

Teams will be scheduled for 8 games (3 seeding round & 5 regular season. All competitive ice hockey leagues will have standings, officials, and playoffs)
-All teams are required to provide their own set of jerseys. (Competitive Leagues) with numbers, this can be a set of pinnies, jerseys (basic jersey with taped numbers)
-Individuals teams must have white jerseys with #
-Only 16 players on your roster will be allowed to dress for games.
-All participants must complete the sport specific waiver before you will be allowed to participate.,This will be on your active living profile once you have been added to the roster by your captain, NO WAIVER NO PLAY POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED
Players may play on 2 teams, but on only in the following cases. E.G. A & B or B & C or C & D, but not A & C / D or B & D.
All division descriptions are a base guideline.
"A" - Players will have advanced skills and knowledge of the rules. They would have played at an elite level within a city league. Teams are highly competitive.
"B" - Players will have intermediate to advanced skills and firm knowledge of the rules. They would have played at a competitive level within a city league. Teams are still competitive.
"C" - Players will have basic to intermediate skills and basic knowledge of the rules. Emphasis is on fun over competition. Teams want the competitive atmosphere. No slap shots.
"D" - Players are relatively new to the sport - still learning the skills and will have basic knowledge of the rules. Emphasis is on fun over competition. Teams want the competitive atmosphere. No slap shots.

Skating Camp
Get back on the ice this summer in this BRAND NEW UCalgary summer camp designed to learn and keep skating skills sharp while developing physical literacy through fundamental movement. Campers in our Kids Skate levels 1-4 will skate twice a day with highly experienced and certified skating instructors either at the Olympic Oval, or Norma Bush/Father David Bauer Arenas depending on the week. Purposefully planned outdoor and gym activities will expose children to a variety of fundamental movement skills that will enhance their skating ability, foster a love for movement and play, and encourage the development of confidence and motivation.
Icetots Parented
With a parent, kids will learn how to balance, fall down and get up, walk forwards and backwards while having fun and playing games. Parents may wear shoes on the ice instead of skates, but they must be clean, indoor shoes. Each child must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Kinderskate
For kids under 6 who can fall down, get up, move around on the ice without assistance.
Icecracker
If your child has passed Kinderskate, he or she will continue to develop their skills with other eager skaters as they learn things like bubbles, skating forwards and backwards with speed, and gliding on one foot with balance.
Kids Skate 1
New skaters or those moving on from Tots Skate will enjoy this introductory lesson. Grouped according to ability, they will learn how to move forwards, backwards, stop and glide with balance.
Kids Skate 2
For Kids Skate 1 graduates, skaters will improve existing skills and learn new ones like t-pushes, bubbles and skating with more speed.
Kids Skate 3
For Kids Skate 2 graduates, Emphasis in this level is backwards skating and stopping. Skaters will also learn how to turn from forwards to backwards and glide on a curve.
Kids Skate 4
For Kids Skate 3 graduates, Kids will learn how to do more advanced skills like crossovers, c-cuts, 3-turns, and edge control.
Kids Skate 5
For Kids Skate 4 graduates, 3-turns and crossovers are the focus, but skaters will also improve their edge control and balance.
Kids Skate 6
This is where skaters will learn backwards crossovers, Mohawk turns, 3-jumps, and where they will improve skills learned in the previous level.
Kids Skate 7
The focus in this level is on edge control, and learning how to connect steps and turns.
Kids Recreational Figure Skating
Once skaters have completed all the Kids Skate levels they will be ready for this relaxed and fun introduction to figure skating. Skaters will work with a coach to learn basic figure skating skills like jumping, spinning, and artistry in a small group setting.
Kids Skate 8
This final level has skaters doing tricky skills like shoot the ducks, waltzing turns, and figure eight crossovers.
Power Skating & Hockey Skills U7/U9
Does your child have the have the fundamental skating skills and is itching to play hockey? This class will provide your child with the opportunity to learn the basics of hockey in a fun environment. We will focus on skills such as passing, shooting, and puck handling, while reinforcing correct stick placement and posture. This program is also suitable for kids in Timbits, lower tier Novice, and House League players. We will divide players according to skill level when necessary.
* Please note that kids must be able to skate forwards, backwards, stop, and turn prior to registering (Passed Kids Skate Level 2). For more options see our Learn to Skate programs.
Power Skating & Hockey Skills U11/U13
This class will be run like a full hockey practice, the first portion focusing on skating skill development, and the second portion will be hockey skills tailored to the skill level of the group. This program is for higher tier U9 players, and U11 players, (formerly Novice and Atom) as well as house league. We will divide the class into skill levels whenever necessary for more individualized instruction.
Adult Skate 1
Never been on skates before? Has it been too long? Terrified of falling? In small groups, you will learn at your own pace. Focus is on balance, falling down and getting up, moving forwards, gliding, and building confidence on ice.
Adult Skate 2
Once you can glide, snowplow stop, and walk backwards, this level 2 class will introduce intermediate skills like one foot glides, edges, side stops and backwards c-cuts.
Adult Skate 3
For those wanting to improve their backwards skating & edges whil learning crossovers, pivot turns, tight turns and other advanced skills.
Summer Adult Power Skating and Hockey Skills
Improve your skating; improve your game. If you play hockey, we teach and emphasize proper technique, form, speed and skill as they apply to the game. Please note: Power Skating is for those who already have a solid foundation of basic skating skills, it is not a learn to skate program.
These camp-like programs run multiple times per week for the month of August and will have you in shape for the upcoming hockey season.
Notes: this is an instructional program, therefor full ice scrimmage time is limited, but you’ll be challenged by small area games and drills to put your game skills into practice.
