BÍOS Triathlon will again be offering a student registration this year for those interested in the swim portion of triathlon.  

Novice to experts are welcome. Triathlon is one of the most challenging sports to be involved in. Challenge yourself.

All swim sessions at the University of Calgary Aquatic Centre

Student Categories:  

Student Tuesday/ Friday - $290 (21 swim sessions) (6) Spots

Ten pass - $240 - any 10 Tuesday/ Wednesday / /Friday (5 spots)

In order to participate in the triathlon swim program, there are pre requisites, see the description for more details.  All participants  will have a swim test on the first day.  Please expect up to 6 swimmers per lane.

Youth Triathlon

Spring/Wummer 2025 registration opens March 15.
Max. 48 spots Swim Only.

Join the longest-serving Youth Triathlon program in Canada! Learn proper swimming, biking and running technique from highly trained coaches. We have spin bikes for those who do not have a road bike and trainer. Training develops your aerobic and anaerobic systems to give you a good base for all sports. You will work with other youth at your level, with progression from start up, all the way to national team level training. The goal will be to have you ready to compete in The Kids of Steel Triathlon Series if you’re interested. This program welcomes athletes of all level.

Requirements: Successful completion of skills in Level 6.
Swimmers develop front crawl (25m), learn back crawl (25m) and whip kick on back, learn stride dive and treading water, perform head-first sculling on back, and swim 75 meters continuously.

Participants must not attend class if they are sick, or a member of their household is sick, even if symptoms resemble a mild cold. Symptoms to look for include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell. 

Bunnies Ski Series

Join us on Saturday mornings this winter for a fun-filled cross country skiing experience! Designed for the beautiful Kananaskis ski trails, our Bunnies program is perfect for children ages 4-6 and focuses on classic skiing techniques, outdoor adventures, and playful games. Kids will be grouped by age and ability to ensure the best experience. A caregiver must accompany each child during the lessons, and you're welcome to join in and learn alongside us!

Jackrabbits Plus Ski Series

Spend your Saturday mornings in Kananaskis enhancing your cross-country ski skills with our Jackrabbits Plus program. Designed for skiers ages 12-17 who have completed our Jackrabbits 3+4 program or already have a solid foundation in skiing, this program offers a challenging and rewarding experience. Participants will refine their technique through engaging games and drills before embarking on longer, faster ski outings, covering approximately 5-10 km in most lessons. While the program is tailored for ages 12-17, we're flexible if you feel it's a good match for your skill level.

Jackrabbits Ski Series

Join us on Saturday mornings for an exciting Jackrabbit cross-country skiing program in the beautiful Kananaskis ski trails, designed for kids ages 7-11. Whether you're just starting or looking to advance your skills, our program offers something for everyone. Participants will be grouped by ability, ensuring personalized instruction that focuses on refining classic skiing techniques through targeted drills, fun games, and scenic ski outings.

Backcountry Emergencies

This 8-hour course is the perfect overview for outdoor recreationalists who don't have a lot of time, and don't require a recognized certificate.
The training introduces potential injuries and emergencies that may arise during your backcountry adventure and focuses on how to manage them effectively.
This is a practical, non-certified course.
Prerequisite: none. Includes: certified instructor, course manual, use of first aid equipment

24hr Remote First Aid & Basic First Aid (Blended)

A great introduction to wilderness first aid, and suitable training for outdoor recreationalists.
This course is not appropriate or adequate for trip leaders, instructors or those undertaking extended travel in remote areas.
This course is 24 hours long, delivered over 1 evening and 2 days (20 hours), supplemented with online learning.
There is no separate recertification for this course. Register for the same 24-hour course to recertify every three years.
Prerequisite: none. Includes: certified instructor, course manual, use of first aid equipment.
Certification: Remote First Aid Certificate and Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR level C (for workplace recognition). Both certifications are valid for 3 years.

40hr Wilderness First Aid & Intermediate First Aid (Blended)

This 40-hour course is the wilderness first aid standard for avid outdoor recreationalists and activity instructors. The minimum standard for outdoor leaders in less remote areas, but not suitable for professionals spending extended periods of time in remote regions. The program focuses on the longer-term implications for care, stabilization, and evacuation of patients from wilderness locations, beyond the initial first aid treatment.
This course is 40 hours, delivered over 4 days (32 hours) including 2 days of practical outdoor scenarios, supplemented with online learning.
Prerequisite: none (minimum age 16). Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Aid certificate and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certificiate with CPR level C.

40hr Wilderness First Aid & IFA Recertification (Blended)

Every 3 years, participants must refresh their skills. This 20-hour course is delivered over 2.5 days (16 hours) of instruction, supplemented with online learning. The program blends classroom theory and practice with practical outdoor scenarios to review the material.
Prerequisite: current Wilderness First Aid or equivalent 40-hour Wilderness First Aid certification. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness Advanced First Aid certificate and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certificiate with CPR level C.

Wilderness First Responder Bridge Course (Blended)

This course is those who have recently completed a 40-hour Wilderness First Aid course and would like to raise that certification to the 80-hour professional level. To be eligible, 40-hour certification must have been completed no more than 1 year prior to the start of the bridge course. This is a 4-hour course delivered over 4 days of instruction, supplemented by online self-study.
Prerequisite: 40-hour Wilderness First Aid certificate received within the past 1 year.
Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Responder certificate and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certificate with CPR Level C and AED training. Both certificates are valid for 3 years.

80hr Wilderness First Responder & Intermediate First Aid (Blended)

This 80-hour course is a comprehensive, professional-level training program suitable for those who work in a non-standard environment, as well as recreationalists planning extended and remote expeditions and outdoor leaders. This is the industry standard for professionals including guides, ski patrol, and search and rescue teams.
Training focuses on detailed assessment and medical care, particularly in emergency situations where equipment and resources may be limited, and includes CPR training to BLS standard.
This course requires a high level of commitment, and includes self-study and homework assignments. Delivery format includes both classroom time and 4 days of practical outdoor scenarios. The course is delivered over 9 days (72 hours), supplemented with online learning.
Prerequisite: none. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Responder certificate and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certificate with CPR C and AED training (for workplace use).


Participants who require an Advanced First Aid (or OFA 3) certification for the workplace should take our WFR & AFA course instead.

80hr Wilderness First Responder & IFA Recertification (Blended)

Every 3 years, participants must refresh their skills. This 40-hour program is delivered over 4 days (32 hours), supplemented with online learning. This course requires a high level of commitment from participants, and requires the completion of pre-reading and online learning assignments prior to the first classroom session. The WFR recertification program focuses on practical skills, scenarios, and simulations, with most theoretical concepts reviewed through online learning.

Prerequisite: current Wilderness First Responder or equivalent 80-hour wilderness first aid certificate. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Responder certificate and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certificate with CPR Level C and AED training. Both certificates are valid for 3 years.

80hr Wilderness First Responder & Advanced First Aid (Blended)

This technical course is a comprehensive, professional-level training program suitable for those who require advanced workplace first aid certification as well as an 80-hour Wilderness First Responder cert. This course is suitable for industry professionals who require the AFA/OFA3 level of certification for professional use. Recreationalists planning remote expeditions and outdoor leaders not requiring the advanced workplace certification may prefer to take the 80-hour WFR & IFA course instead.
This course is run as a 7-day Advanced First Aid course, plus 2 days providing the supplementary wilderness content for the Wilderness First Responder certification.
This course requires a high level of commitment, and includes self-study and homework assignments. In-person portion includes both classroom time and practical outdoor scenarios. The course is delivered over a total of 9 days of instrutional time, supplemented with additional online learning. 

Prerequisite: none. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Responder certificate and Advanced First Aid (Blended) certificate with CPR C and AED training (for workplace use). This course is recognized as OFA 3 equivalent for those working in BC.

80hr Wilderness First Responder & AFA Recertification (Blended)

Every 3 years, participants must refresh their skills. This program is delivered over 6 days of instruction, supplemented with additional online learning. Instructional time includes both practical scenarios in both workplace and wilderness settings. This course requires a high level of commitment from participants, and requires the completion of pre-reading and online learning assignments prior to the first classroom session. The WFR recertification program focuses on practical skills, scenarios, and simulations, with most theoretical concepts reviewed through online learning.

This course is suitable for industry professionals who require the AFA/OFA3 level of certification for professional use. Recreationalists planning remote expeditions and outdoor leaders not requiring the advanced workplace certification may prefer to switch to the 80-hour WFR & IFA stream instead.

This course is run as an 5-day Advanced First Aid recert, with the final day providing the supplementary wilderness content for the Wilderness First Responder re-certification.
This course requires a high level of commitment, and includes self-study and homework assignments. Delivery format includes both classroom time and practical outdoor scenarios.

Prerequisite: current Wilderness First Responder & Advanced First Aid or equivalent 80-hour wilderness first aid & AFA certificate. Includes: certified instructor, use of first aid equipment, course manual.
Certification: Wilderness First Responder certificate and Advanced First Aid certificate with CPR C and AED training (for workplace use). This course is recognized as OFA 3 equivalent for those working in
BC.

Please note that a current Wilderness First Responder & Intermediate First Aid certification is not sufficient prerequisite for this recert. Please contact us with any questions about your eligibility before registering.
